Gandhi's Christ quote stamp by AtheosEmanon Gandhi's Christ quote stamp by AtheosEmanon
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ"
Mohandas Gandhi

I think this is one of my favorite quotes that Gandhi said, so simple yet truthful. While, as an atheist I do not believe in "Christ" or for me personally do not even believe in his existence. I do think as the quote says if more Christians were "Christ like" they would not be such dicks.

I think the quote in general sums up my feelings on christianity as a whole.... yes, I am sure I will get some who agree, and some who disagree... yet if you disagree, then post your own stamp, I can do without the "oh you're wrong blah blah blah"

I am sure I will get the, oh you're an atheist blah blah blah... you have no say on religious blah blah blah.

As an atheist, speaking only for me and some I have known. We don’t care who you worship, be it Christ, Allah, whatever. As long as you’re not a dick about it, or think yourself to be superior because of your religious beliefs then many atheists do not care either way.. oh and not trying to intertwine the law with religion and things of that nature, then by all means have fun with it.

Since I know I may get asked about my views on religion, I will just link you here…

An atheist on theism + atheism

What it means to be an atheist

A friend asked me to make this stamp when I showed her the quote, so that she can put it on her deviant art page. So if you want to fave it, that would be cool, if not.. that is also cool.

I feel I ought to point out that Gandhi deeply believed in the rigid Hindu caste system, so he was hardly one to criticize Christians.

He didn't believe in the caste system, he thought it was wrong. And Gandhi himself is not atheist. I don't understand why atheists find it fine to use the quotes of religious leaders to only criticize Christianity and Islam. They're completely ignorant to other religions.

Towards the end of his life, he did speak out more against the "untouchables" and the caste system - - though saying he may have been wrong on one aspect of a system so is he hardly one to criticize another subject also makes very little sense.

He criticized Christians because the perceived injustice they inflicted upon others. Nevertheless he upheld a system that oppressed countless generations of people whose only crime was to be born to a certain family.

I would of course like to point out, he did not only speak against Christians - he also spoke to the violence done by fundamentalist Muslims, even fundamentalists Hindus in India during his time - - this quote just spoke of the Christians since in America that is most often who I tend to engage.

Change does not happen overnight, and it is not incumbent upon one man to change a system on his own - - the people as a whole must ultimately want to change the system and when they do - one man alone cannot stand in their way. Especially a system that was thousands of years old and would probably take a century or so to change. Even now, the Caste system is still prevalent in India - - more parts than others. I would imagine it will take quite a while for a system that has been there for thousands of years to be done away with .. though one could point out similar caste like systems in many societies so it is not Hindu or India specific.. but such is life.

Well if one speaks against the caste system.. and works for years to bring about an end to it - - first recognizing the untouchables as worthy of rights and of course was murdered before much of his goals could be achieved - - though at 78 who knows if he would have lived to completely revamp the system  to a post Hindu Caste system.

Nations often discard their old leaders for new ones ... old ideas for new ones... and old ways of life for new ones... such is life - change is the only constant.

Johann Hari, a writer said of the Pope:
"And I would just say to all the Catholics who are queuing up to go and hear this man, take a look at the man on your crucifix. Who do you think Jesus Christ would be standing with?"

Then Jesus is totally fucked in the head. Not just for choosing someone to rule over the rest of humanity, but for choosing someone so utterly and irredeemably evil.

Covering up the rape of children is irredeemably evil. Complaining that you can't hear enough screaming while having people tortured is irredeemably evil. Selling tickets to heaven is evil, and though I'm not opposed to it, I don't think it's okay for people who are celibate old fools to be having orgies, don't you?

Who ever said anything about covering up child abuse?
Or tortuign people?
Or selling tickets to Heaven?
Or orgies?
Are we even having the same fucking conversation?!?

The Pope has had nothing to with the Child Abuse Scandals.
When exactly did he torture people?
The Pope never condoned the selling of indulgences.
When were those supposed orgies?

The bible is the ultimate conundrum, it allows for the most greatest of goods and most questionable of evils.

I prefer the hippie Jesus though compared to the Jesus of Luke 14:25-27 and the cost of being a disciple

I live by this..

"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

As a Christian, I say that this stamp is beyond true. If more Christians weren't so "I'm better than all of you" ish, then maybe people wouldn't resent Christianity. Sadly, there are very few Christians who actually live like how God would want us to live

Well I do not think Christians are the only who believe god wants them to do this or that. In my many travels, I have seen many and I must admit in my humble opinion I very much enjoyed going to poor Muslim countries.. Where men who had very little still opened their home to strangers for a drink and a meal and I found them to be quite entertaining in their stories of their family history. Not saying Christians do not do the same since Christians have in my travels but admittedly not to the same degree.

I await my African trip where I will go cross continent for 12-18 months and see how that goes.

Wow sir, I have heard many things about the Muslim country's, but I have never heard a First-Hand Account such as this! I beleive that God wants EVERYBODY to behave like this, to be respectful to our fellow humans, to walk humbly, and to spread His word.

I wish you good luck my friend, and once you return (Or if you can while you are there) I would like you to tell me of your travels ^^

I am in the US, as I see from your page that you are in the US. On tv most of the stuff they will tell us about the Middle East is only about terrorist, yes there are terrorist there but they are hardly the majority and in fact a very small minority overall. They tend to be somewhat lax or strict in their faith depend where you go, but the general 1950s America rule apply, you do not walk up to a girl and just start talking without first acknowledging her father and showing respect,.. none of that sex talk nonsense since Islamic law tends to teach no sex before marriage.

Well when I go I plan to either get a separate page, or upload photos of my travels on this page.

^^more than likely a second page since this page is quite politically based and I do not want people to start commenting my photos about stuff they should have commented my political pieces with.

I know, I mean, its not like there is an ENTIRE SECTION OF THE GLOBE full of terrorists! There are things that apparently people only think exist here, what are they called? Oh yeah, HUMANS!! Humans with lives that we are just plain out calling terrorists because they live in a certain area of the world! And also, when it comes to the rules they have about relationships, I whole heartedly agree that you should respect parents, and save sex for marriage, because that is basically what it is for! (Not marriage, sex is mainly for after marriage because sex is creating a new child unto the world with your genetics) I just dont like how kids act these days, nothing but cursing and talking about sex every 3 seconds!

Okay, be sure to send me the pics ^^

Okay, as said in the above statement, please send me the pics XD

The funny thing about the fear of the middle east by Americans is… they [the terrorists] have killed more of their own people than Americans and yet Americans just smear the lot of them as terrorist and American hating. But if most Americans travel to another country, or even another part of town they will find assholes, idiots but most of the people will not be that way.

Sort of like a friend’s mom, lived in NY all of her life and never went to Harlem because she thought it was just filled with black people who hated white people… so he brought her up to Harlem and she saw it was nothing like she expected, she met with some old woman and now they meet weekly and she now considers this woman, a black woman, her best friend and they attend each other’s family gatherings etc so I just tell people to venture outside of their box,

I would disagree that sex is mainly for after marriage because sex is creating a new child… I do respect your, what I am assuming your religious beliefs regarding such but would disagree that sex is mainly for marriage… it is for to carry on the species as animals have been doing for millions of years…

.. I will link you to the page if/when I start a new page but than again a second page may be too much to handle so .. perhaps I will ask the Deviant art people to allow for sub folders..folders within folders" so I can keep my trips organized and still use one account.
