Gandhi's Christ quote stamp by AtheosEmanon Gandhi's Christ quote stamp by AtheosEmanon
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ"
Mohandas Gandhi

I think this is one of my favorite quotes that Gandhi said, so simple yet truthful. While, as an atheist I do not believe in "Christ" or for me personally do not even believe in his existence. I do think as the quote says if more Christians were "Christ like" they would not be such dicks.

I think the quote in general sums up my feelings on christianity as a whole.... yes, I am sure I will get some who agree, and some who disagree... yet if you disagree, then post your own stamp, I can do without the "oh you're wrong blah blah blah"

I am sure I will get the, oh you're an atheist blah blah blah... you have no say on religious blah blah blah.

As an atheist, speaking only for me and some I have known. We don’t care who you worship, be it Christ, Allah, whatever. As long as you’re not a dick about it, or think yourself to be superior because of your religious beliefs then many atheists do not care either way.. oh and not trying to intertwine the law with religion and things of that nature, then by all means have fun with it.

Since I know I may get asked about my views on religion, I will just link you here…

A friend asked me to make this stamp when I showed her the quote, so that she can put it on her deviant art page. So if you want to fave it, that would be cool, if not.. that is also cool.

I feel I ought to point out that Gandhi deeply believed in the rigid Hindu caste system, so he was hardly one to criticize Christians.

He didn't believe in the caste system, he thought it was wrong. And Gandhi himself is not atheist. I don't understand why atheists find it fine to use the quotes of religious leaders to only criticize Christianity and Islam. They're completely ignorant to other religions.

Towards the end of his life, he did speak out more against the "untouchables" and the caste system - - though saying he may have been wrong on one aspect of a system so is he hardly one to criticize another subject also makes very little sense.

He criticized Christians because the perceived injustice they inflicted upon others. Nevertheless he upheld a system that oppressed countless generations of people whose only crime was to be born to a certain family.

I would of course like to point out, he did not only speak against Christians - he also spoke to the violence done by fundamentalist Muslims, even fundamentalists Hindus in India during his time - - this quote just spoke of the Christians since in America that is most often who I tend to engage.

Change does not happen overnight, and it is not incumbent upon one man to change a system on his own - - the people as a whole must ultimately want to change the system and when they do - one man alone cannot stand in their way. Especially a system that was thousands of years old and would probably take a century or so to change. Even now, the Caste system is still prevalent in India - - more parts than others. I would imagine it will take quite a while for a system that has been there for thousands of years to be done away with .. though one could point out similar caste like systems in many societies so it is not Hindu or India specific.. but such is life.

Well if one speaks against the caste system.. and works for years to bring about an end to it - - first recognizing the untouchables as worthy of rights and of course was murdered before much of his goals could be achieved - - though at 78 who knows if he would have lived to completely revamp the system  to a post Hindu Caste system.
