Gandhi's Christ quote stamp by AtheosEmanon Gandhi's Christ quote stamp by AtheosEmanon
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ"
Mohandas Gandhi

I think this is one of my favorite quotes that is often ascribed to Gandhi [there is some debate about that I also sometimes use the quote and attributed it to "anonymous" , so simple yet truthful. While, as an atheist I do not believe in "Christ" or for me personally do not even believe in his existence. I do think as the quote says if more Christians were "Christ like" they would not be such dicks.

I think the quote in general sums up my feelings on Christianity as a whole.... yes, I am sure I will get some who agree, and some who disagree... yet if you disagree, then post your own stamp, I can do without the "oh you're wrong blah blah blah"

I am sure I will get the, oh you're an atheist blah blah blah... you have no say on religious blah blah blah.

As an atheist, speaking only for me and some I have known. We don’t care who you worship, be it Christ, Allah, whatever. As long as you’re not a dick about it, or think yourself to be superior because of your religious beliefs then many atheists do not care either way.. oh and not trying to intertwine the law with religion and things of that nature, then by all means have fun with it.

Since I know I may get asked about my views on religion, I will just link you here…

An atheist on theism + atheism

What it means to be an atheist

A friend asked me to make this stamp when I showed her the quote, so that she can put it on her deviant art page. So if you want to fave it, that would be cool, if not.. that is also cool.

I'm a very devout Christian and am somewhat known for that on deviantART. I've built my entire online ministry around being non-judgmental and trying to teach other Christians to stop pointing the finger at others long enough to realize they're sinners, too. In fact Christ Himself said not to bring people to Him with the attitude of "Look, Lord! Here's a sinner!" Pointing out the flaws of others stems from pride, which was the sin that got Lucifer kicked out of Heaven and that says it all right there. A lot of Christians these days need to check themselves.

Agreed. I hold a general view that texts of religious texts are the ultimate of conundrums, allowing for the greatest of goods and justification for bad.. so many believers tend to focus and look for justification to condemn others. As Gandhi said, if they were to look towards the better parts of the texts perhaps things would be views in a much better light

What gets me is that people on both sides of the issue will pull verses completely out of context and quote them as evidence to back up their claim. I don't get how people don't understand that the Bible is not like your every day instruction manual. It's a book. It's not meant to be skimmed. It's meant to be read cover to cover. There are plenty of Christians out there who haven't even taken the time to even try to read the entire thing and they still run around pointing fingers and saying "The Bible CLEARLY says..."

Pro Tip: Practice what you preach or don't preach.

A tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny as Aesop said... religion, faith is just the easiest thing at which to get people to gather behind an idea because it generally is about faith.

I am an agnostic atheist, so I admit I generally care not what one believes as long as they are not harming anyone... if they want to worship your Christ.. Allah, the gods and goddesses of wiccan and pagan faiths..or wanna take it old school and worship Amun .. have at it.

So, I agree I wish people would practice what they preach but people tend to prefer to punch downward...or have someone to attack.

Sadly. From a Christian perspective if you don't mind, I'll say that it takes a LOT of prayer and a LOT of being disciplined by God to get to a point where you genuinely have enough grace flowing through you that you're even able to bite your tongue or "turn the other cheek," as Jesus said and most people, including Christians, of today aren't interested in submitting their own will in favor of His. They love the idea of salvation, but are more interested in the "one and done" method of praying for salvation and then going about their merry way. But even Jesus said "Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord" will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do the Will of my Father."

As I said, people can believe in what they wish, and whether they believe in will require discipline. Though speaking of faith specifically or life in generally people... some people, tend to lack discipline.

But if Christ is the path one takes for their mental salvation in that I do not personally believe said figure but if it gives comfort to someone to believe in such, have at it. If someone receives such from Allah or whatever the case may be.. As Evelyn Beatrice Hall said.. often misquoted to Voltaire
"I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. "

I hold a similar view of faiths to a point. I may not agree with what one may believe but will defend their human right to their beliefs... as a must caveat of course . where none are harmed.

I just happen to be checking on when I saw your comment but am about to head out with the slave somewhere  I shall of course answer any further comments later and do appreciate the civility so far.

Well belief structures should be challenged, I have no issue with challenging something you disagree with, be it religion or politics.

Most atheists like most theists I have met are good people, and by "troll" do you mean simply online? eh I mean actually MEETING in an offline capacity .. I would not look at just atheists online and go hmm yeah .. most atheists and theists I have met are just people living their lives, for the most part are okay people. Sure you have asshole atheists and theists but from meeting point they are usually in a minority.

Ofc I mean online the atheists I know irl avoid me like I have aids, most of my problems come from the fact that most atheists think they superior just because they don't believe in anything, hell even I once met an atheist irl, some 15 year-old brat try this atheists smack talk to me at a fast food joint, the cops had to take me to the station cause I made her cry, and ever since that day, I have made it my DUTY to let every atheists I pass by be irl or www, that they are still human, that they are no "higher evolution breed" . You walk, breath  and talk like I do.

PS:I'm not Christian....most people mistake me for it, and that's why they avoid me, cause they don't know how to deal with me.....

PSS: Why is it most atheists can respect all other religions BUT Christianity, are they really your Polar Opposite ?

Well I do not know you or know if they avoid you or not ... ... disbelief in god is not a disbelief in nothing .. or the not believing in anything..

umm.. okay with respect to the ending of the first part.

.. well I do not know your religious beliefs so did not worry about it in my reply.

You say "most atheists" .. I disagree with the assertion. Most atheists tend to focus on the dominant religion in their country, if you are in the West then the dominant religion is most likely Christianity, yet if you are in the Middle East you will find most of those atheists speaking against Muslims. You speak about what effects you the most and if you happen to be in the West, that would be Christianity.. so it is more regional than simply atheist or Christian.

This is kinda why I refuse to have a religion. It's like a fan base to me, the main cause of the fan base is ok; but the people are HORRIBLE. Trying to use the Bible to stop fights? Saying "Rot in hell", "You're a spawn of Satan"? People just don't believe to be called or claimed to be followers/children of Christ, Allah, etc.

Why can't people just accept the fact that we're all different, that we have different beliefs and religions, different ways of living life? I dunno. WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME.
I read a story in C.P. English last year that told a story of what would happen if everybody was "normal". Everybody was mind-controlled by the government and literally on tape for 24/7 with special hearing-aids. If somebody were to THINK of something that was not "approved" they would hear a loud unsettling noise. If an actor/actress/dancer, etc. was "too pretty", they had to wear black bags/sacks over their heads and if they danced/acted/etc. better than everyone else in the group, they had to wear shackles tied to titanium/metal/stone spheres. Everybody had to dress the same as well. NOBODY HAD FREEDOM, and a boy who tried to make everyone different again was shot and killed.
DO YOU PEOPLE SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU TRIED TO MAKE THINGS "NORMAL" OR IF THINGS WERE THE SAME?! Our life would be HORRIBLE AND DEVISTATING.
I can't believe people, but I guess that's just how life is...

Well that would sound too logical at which in this country and the world people seem to always wish to push a "my way or the high way" view/

Sounds like the "1984" book.

I agree, conformity is terrible.

That is cool, yes some religious friends have invited me to go to Church and I often decline.

I do volunteer at a Church, even though I do not celebrate Christmas or thanksgiving, I do like helping people and if it be a Church that needs help, a Temple or Mosque..whatever. and they need help handing out food to the homeless, as long as they are not saying YOU MUST BELIEVE WHAT I BELIEVE TO GET FOOD then I would surely help if I can

I have to agree. Even if a child is being held in a christian extremist home, they gain freedom to go out of the house but then they end up being wild even out of control.

They will taste freedom, by tasting alcohol and doing drugs to feel the freedom that they never had. They will fall into the deep end.

Even for the extremist of churches and their children even the sick duggars. Jana duggar wants to move out of the house since she is sick even tired of being a babysitter. She is 25 years old, and she will get a sight of freedom but then will do anything to taste that freedom, by drinking alcohol even drugs.

Without knowing what one considers "out of control" since that is a bar at which changes with everyone.. to her family.. her having a drink would be out of control..

I cannot speak to whether or not she will try alcohol or drugs, depending on the drug, I would not say it would be the "deep end" and would imagine, one can maintain a modicum of self-control when using alcohol and the like. I am not too familiar with the Duggars other than what they have recently been in the news for so have no clue about one being 25 and a babysitter and the like.

 yeah it would be but basically families who are extremist families shelter their kids too much.

The duggars are these sick twisted lie filled christian family. Their son, Josh Duggar, was with a molestation case he molested his own two sisters. The family hid it underneath the rug for 15 years since they wanted the 15 minutes of fame. In a rule in Arkansas if you fail to report a crime then you are charged. They are just an attention seeking family, i mean one rule that they should do is keep off the media.

Yes, other than Josh and what has been in the news I do not know much about the family since I have never seen an episode of the show .. it never much interested me enough to check it out. 2 sisters? I thought he molested 4 of his sisters and 1 non family member? That is what has been reported in the news..People will want to keep watching so I would not be surprised if they are picked up by some Conservative station .. but time will tell..

Trust me the family is an ugly one. The parents are failures, they do not believe in condoms or birth control, even they cannot keep their legs shut.

Yeah he did molested one non family member, they want too but TLC pulled them off the air even they knew what Josh did and allowed the show to keep going.
